And be prepared for the usual indifferent documentation you'll spend a LOT of time trying things out to see if it works Make sure you've backed up the maps already in your Garmin GPS BEFORE installing maps it isn't always a straightforward matter. You'll need to EITHER obtain map data in the formats it accepts (vector formats only no scanned maps) OR be prepared to draw your own there are packages to allow you to do that (e.g. ![]() ![]() Then again, what I've done for Antarctica is probably rather more complex than most people need.īe ready to use command line programs! There are GUIs for most things, but a few things work better from a command line. But I've been doing this kind of thing professionally for over 30 years. I've done it to create maps for Antarctica (which Garmin doesn't provide). It's perfectly feasible, but unless someone has already done the hard bit for you, it requires a fair amount of computing skills. ![]()
